A. Assignment by the Police Chief or his designee to a position requiring bilingual <br />capability in both English and any other languages designated by the Orange <br />County Registrar of Voters as necessary for official voting information and or <br />Federal Voting Rights Act; and <br />B. Certification by the chief personnel officer as having satisfactorily demonstrated <br />the required level of fluency in both languages. <br />C. Swom: Street Level Proficienc1 iSpanish. A Police Officer or Sergeant who <br />successfully demonstrates the required level of bilingual fluency as determined by <br />the chief personnel officer shall be paid a bilingual pay differential in an amount <br />equal to the product obtained by multiplying the Step "E" base salary rate of <br />Police Officer by five (5) salary rate ranges (approximately 2.5 %). <br />Employees receiving "Street Level Proficiency" incentive pay may be required, as <br />a condition of continued eligibility to receive such incentive pay, to successfully <br />complete an eight (8) hour refresher course once every twelve months from the <br />date of initial certification, <br />D. Sworn: Complex Level Proficiency in Designated Langu.anes. A Police Officer or <br />Police Sergeant who successfully demonstrates the required level of bilingual <br />fluency as detennined by the chief personnel officer shall be paid a bilingual pay <br />differential in an amount equal to the product obtained by multiplying the Step <br />"E" base salary rate of Police Officer by ten (10) salary rate ranges <br />(approximately 5 %). <br />E. Non -Sworn: Secondary Level Proficiency in Designated Languages. A non - <br />sworn employee who successfully demonstrates the required level of bilingual <br />fluency as determined by the chief personnel officer shall be paid a monthly <br />differential of forty dollars ($40) above his or her then current base monthly <br />salary step. <br />P. Non -Sworn: Primary Level Proficiency in Designated Languages. A non -sworn <br />employee who successfully demonstrates the required level of bilingual fluency as <br />determined by the chief personnel officer shall be paid a monthly differential of <br />one hundred seventy -five dollars ($175) above his or her then current base <br />monthly salary step. <br />5.4 All assignments to positions set forth in Sections 5.1, 5.2, 5.3 above of sworn and non- <br />sworn personnel shall be made or revoked in a fair mvmer at the discretion of the Police <br />Chief. <br />5.5 Temporary Upgrade Assignment Pay.
