REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />NOVEMBER 3, 2015 <br />TITLE: <br />VARIANCE NO. 2015 -07 TO ALLOW <br />ADDITIONAL WALL SIGNS ON TWO <br />BUILDING ELEVATIONS FOR DEL AMO <br />MOTORSPORTS LOCATED AT 2401 SOUTH <br />PULLMAN STREET - SCOTT KING, <br />APPLICANT (STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 3,2) <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />G-'.7 F <br />El <br />As Recommended <br />[I <br />As Amended <br />M <br />Ordinance on 1't Reading <br />® <br />Ordinance on 2M Reading <br />L I <br />Implementing Resolution <br />Cl <br />Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Receive and file the staff report approving Variance No. 2015 -07 as conditioned. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION ACTION <br />At its regular meeting on October 12, 2015 by a vote of 5:0 (Nalle & Verino absent), the Planning <br />Commission adopted a resolution approving Variance No. 2015 -07 as conditioned to allow the <br />installation of six wall- mounted signs on two elevations of the building and to allow two of those <br />signs to be installed above 20 feet in height at 2401 South Pullman Street located in the Light <br />Industrial (M1) zoning district. The Planning Commission made no changes to the <br />recommendation outlined in the attached staff report (Exhibit A). <br />DISCUSSION <br />Del Amo Motorsports is requesting approval of five secondary wall signs on each of two building <br />elevations that describe the motorcycle, all- terrain vehicle, utility - vehicle, and power watercraft <br />makes sold at the retail store and to install two business identification signs above the maximum <br />allowable height of 20 feet. The secondary wall signs would be placed on the northwest elevation <br />of the existing building and on the north elevation of a proposed motorcycle display bridge. The two <br />business identification signs would be placed on the north and northwest elevations of the proposed <br />motorcycle display tower. A total of 12 signs would be installed between two elevations of the <br />building at the site. Full -sized plans are available for public viewing in the Clerk of the Council <br />Office. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #3 Economic Development, <br />Objective #2 (create new opportunities for business /job growth and encourage private <br />development through new General Plan and Zoning Ordinance policies). <br />31A-1 <br />
