Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Congratulated Mayor Pro Tem Sarmiento for being selected one of the <br />nation's Top Pro - Growth Progressive Leaders by the NewDEAL for his <br />efforts to expand affordable and inclusionary housing; <br />• Invited all to upcoming Dia De Los Muertos and SOMOS events <br />scheduled for the upcoming weekend; <br />• Reported her attendance at NALEO House Summit in Florida on <br />October 23, 2015; discussed affordable care act among other matters; <br />requested advocacy efforts at senior centers; <br />• Reported that she attended Orange County Council of Government's <br />Equity Summit in Los Angeles on October 27th; discussed racial equity <br />policy; and <br />* Councilmember Martinez left the meeting at 7:35 p.m. and did not return. <br />Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• Commented on the nationally recognized elected officials that serve on <br />this City Council; and <br />• Noted that Segerstrom and Valley High Schools have qualified for the <br />playoffs; Santa Ana High and Saddleback are expected to win; also, <br />Monarch cheerleaders have qualified for regional championship and <br />will be recognizing them soon. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Sarmiento: <br />• Disclosed for the record that he attended advocacy trip to Washington <br />DC on October 26th; met with Department of Justice on COPS grant, <br />Senators and Department of Transportation staff; discussed <br />homelessness, youth programs and transportation; attended meetings <br />with Police Chief, City Manager and Councilmember Benavides. <br />Councilmember Amezcua: <br />• Joined in recognizing Mayor Pro Tem Sarmiento on recent recognition; <br />• Thanked Consulado de Mexico, Mario Cuevas, for hosting movie on <br />history of dia de los muertos event at Bowers Museum; and <br />• Thanked staff for great work and service to the community. <br />Councilmember Reyna: <br />• Reminded all to conserve water; <br />• Invited all to attend upcoming SOMOS event; <br />• Welcomed expansion of Jalapenos Restaurant into Santa Ana; <br />• Asked all to participate in Relay for Life event; and <br />• Urged all to shop in Santa Ana as Christmas holidays approach. <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />• Reported that he attended trip to Washington DC along with Mayor Pro <br />Tem Sarmiento; held 12 meetings in the few days there and spoke on <br />various issues; <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 17 NOVEMBER 3, 2015 <br />1 0A -17 <br />
