CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS <br />• Reported that $16.33 million in grant funding for Active <br />Transportation projects received thus far. <br />• Invited all to attend Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on November <br />18th at 7 p.m. <br />90B. CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• Congratulated sports teams and coaches, 5 local high school teams <br />have made CIF championship, 3 advanced to 2nd round; also, Pop <br />Cheerleaders are in last tournament to qualify for Nationals; <br />• Reflected and gave thanks for serving the community; thanked staff for <br />dedication and leadership; <br />• Announced that Boys and Girls Club will be handing out turkeys on <br />Friday — asked all to give back to those less fortunate; and <br />• Wished all a Happy Thanksgiving, <br />Mayor Pro Tern Sarmiento: <br />• Friday the 13th met with President Obama's Chief of Staff in <br />Washington DC; discussed many issues including Paris Terrorist <br />Attacks that took place that day; Also, opined that Washington DC's <br />success and legacy mirrors our City; <br />• Will be attending New Deal session in Washington DC on November <br />19th; <br />• Thanked City Manager for attending Economic Development Summit <br />last night; better marketing and efforts appear to have afforded a better <br />meeting than the first one; and <br />• Reflected on tragedy in Paris. <br />Councilmember Amezcua: <br />• Thanked staff for hard work and dedication; <br />• Disclosed that she attended Hispanic Council for Reform and <br />Education Options (HCREO) Conference in Florida paid for by the City; <br />• Welcomed Julie Castro - Cardenas and Victor Negrete to the City of <br />Santa Ana; and <br />• Wished all a Happy Thanksgiving. <br />Councilmember Reyna: <br />• Reminder to conserve water, especially on rainy days; <br />• Relay for Life event scheduled in early Spring; urged all to participate <br />and support organization; <br />• Commented that Santa Ana Youth and Government Alfredo <br />Torreblanca chosen to be a statewide chaplain for the 68th California <br />YMCA Youth and Government Model Legislature and Court; <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 15 NOVEMBER 17, 2015 <br />1 0A -15 <br />
