The funds will aid artists to further their artistic creativity while residing, working or <br />creating a specific project for the benefit of Santa Ana's community. The artist grant funding may <br />be applied towards artistic needs small and large, depending on the proposal. Grants for arts <br />organizations would support special events, arts and cultural programming, and non - profit <br />essentials, such as materials, supplies, special event production and community engagements. <br />In Fiscal Year 2015 -2016, a total of $85,000 was awarded to selected artists and art <br />organizations. Awardees received grants in the amounts of either $5,000 or $10,000. Grant <br />funding for six artists totaling $45,000 was applied towards artist project including time, travel, <br />research, equipment, and supplies. Grant funding for five art organizations totaling $40,000 was <br />applied towards special events, special projects, equipment, and supplies. <br />To date 2,035 youth have participated in art workshops hosted by grant recipients in Santa Ana. <br />Recipients attest to the joy, confidence, teamwork and respect that have developed by <br />participating in these projects. Timid and shy youth reported that they were more confident by the <br />end of these workshops. <br />For Fiscal Year 2016 -2017, approximately $70,000 is anticipated to be distributed; $40,000 for art <br />organizations and $30,000 for artists. However, Staff is recommending revising the grant <br />amounts to four $10,000 grants available for arts organizations and six to twelve grants for artists <br />in the amount of $2,500 - $5,000. <br />21A-1 <br />
