REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />FEBRUARY 16, 2016 <br />TITLE: <br />PARK RANGER PROGRAM UPDATE <br />{STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 1, 1} <br />F <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Receive and file Park Ranger Update. <br />DISCUSSION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />_''.SIT <br />® As Recommended <br />® As Amended <br />® Ordinance on 18' Reading <br />El Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />0 Implementing Resolution <br />77 Set Public Wearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />The Police Department assumed responsibility for the Park Ranger Program on April 18, 2015. <br />Since then, the Police Department has been working towards fully staffing the program with <br />qualified, fully trained and highly motivated Park Rangers. The Police Department has assigned <br />one full -time Park Liaison Officer to the program. In addition, the one existing part -time Park <br />Ranger from Parks and Recreation completed his required POST re- qualification class on <br />December 18, 2015 and has completed the background investigation process. This Park Ranger <br />began his 12- week training program on February 2, 2016. The Police Department was able to <br />successfully hire one part -time Park Ranger, who has since been separated. <br />To date, the Personnel Services Department has received 278 applications for the Park Ranger <br />positions. There were 47 applicants who possessed the minimum qualifications required by the <br />job description. Of the 47 applicants that met the minimum qualifications, 13 remain in the <br />recruitment process. Five applicants were scheduled for the Physical Agility test December 2015 <br />(four passed and are currently in the background investigation process; one reschedule); six <br />applicants will be scheduled for oral interviews in February 2016; and two applicants have asked <br />to have their applications placed on hold. The remaining 34 candidates failed a component of <br />the recruitment process. <br />19F -1 <br />
