REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />MARCH 15, 2016 <br />TITLE: <br />AGREEMENT WITH BOBBY NAVA <br />ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE 2016 CINCO <br />DE MAYO EVENT {STRATEGIC PLAN NO. <br />5, 5C } <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />® As Recommended <br />© As Amended <br />® Ordinance on 9 t Reading <br />M Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />Cl Implementing Resolution <br />l71 Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Authorize the City Manager and Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Bobby Nava <br />Advertising and Entertainment Agency for advertising and entertainment services for the Cinco <br />de Mayo event in the amount of $31,500, for a term to end on May 30, 2016, subject to non - <br />substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Cinco de Mayo event has been a positive attraction for the downtown businesses and <br />surrounding neighborhoods. This event attracts thousands of Santa Ana residents and visitors from <br />throughout Orange County. The purpose of the event is to celebrate Cinco de Mayo through a safe, <br />family - friendly event that includes: live entertainment, food booths, informational /resource booths, <br />merchandise /service booths; cultural exhibits and carnival rides /games over two days. The 17th <br />Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival will take place on April 30 — May 1, 2016. <br />City staff has been working to bring together all the elements necessary to operate a successful <br />event. As part of managing the event and in an effort to retain A -list talent, city staff is requesting to <br />enter into agreement with Bobby Nava Advertising and Entertainment Agency to retain event <br />performers. The City expects that the inclusion of A -list talent will draw additional people to the City <br />of Santa Ana for the event. Staff reached out to Bobby Nava Entertainment and he was able to <br />secure Kevin Ortiz and Dianna Reyes to perform at the 2016 Cinco de Mayo event. This agreement <br />will increase the amount authorized to this vendor to $75,500 for the 2015 -2016 fiscal year. <br />25H -1 <br />
