COMMENTS <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />• Alex Vega, noted that he lived amongst the homeless; opined that Santa Ana has <br />served population well and happy to be here to speak on the subject. <br />• Smitty, spoke on mobile homeless check in center; expected later this year; <br />suggested that a better idea be considered since original plan only accounted for <br />225 homeless but now over 2,000 homeless live in the area. <br />• Michael Klubnikin, commented that Iliad and son not present tonight, but City should <br />consider their request for assistance. <br />• Lupe Martin -Moreno, volunteer at the Library; raised health and safety concerns at <br />facility. <br />• Mike Tardiff, spoke on proposed granny flat ordinance; concerns that it would create <br />noise, increase traffic, police calls and negatively impact neighborhoods; need <br />extensive outreach on the matter. <br />90A. CITY MANAGER'S COMMENTS <br />• City Manager Cavazos shared that the Santa Ana Public Library has <br />been named as a finalist for the 2016 National Medal award by the <br />Institute of Museum and Library Services in recognition of exceptional <br />service to the community and for making a difference in the lives of <br />individuals, families, and communities. <br />90B. CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Attended League of Cities meeting in Ontario - can distribute notes on <br />meeting, if needed; attended NALEO meetings in Long Beach and <br />Washington DC <br />• Noted that a lot of activity on transportation policy at the State level; <br />asked staff to work together with Orange County Transportation <br />Authority (OCTA) and Southern California Association of Governments <br />(SCAG); and <br />• Invited residents to participate in pilot project to track vehicle miles <br />traveled and how to fund transportation in the future; noted that lower <br />gas prices means lower revenue to the City to fix streets and address <br />transportation issues; important to prioritize discussion on matter. <br />Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• Thanked staff for work this past week; and <br />• Reported that on March 5th will hold speech debate; thanked Kiwanis <br />Club for hosting and asked for volunteer judges. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 14 MARCH 1, 2016 <br />
