RECOMMENDATIONS <br />Based on the laboratory results from AAL and our field observations, LTE recommends <br />that special precautions should be observed when the roof vent penetration mastic is <br />disturbed it contain asbestos. LTE recommends the following: <br />ROOF VENT PENETRATION MASTIC & TRANSITE FLUE <br />• Removal of asbestos containing materials should only be performed by California <br />Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) certified asbestos contractors <br />and workers under the supervision of a DOSH certified Site Surveillance Technician <br />or a DOSH Certified Asbestos Consultant. <br />• The surfaces should be rusted to reduce airborne particulates. <br />• Asbestos contractor must notify the SCAQMD 10 business days prior to performing <br />the abatement if he /she will remove or disturb more than 100 sq /ft. <br />• Asbestos contractor must also notify OSHA at least 1 day before abatement. <br />• All the ACM must be placed in double bag 6 mil polyethylene sheeting. <br />• These materials must be transported and disposed of pursuant to all appropriate <br />regulations of the Department of Transportation, EPA, etc. <br />• The contractor should provide the owner and or city representative with a copy of the <br />completed waste manifest. <br />In accordance with the EPA's NESHAPs 40 CFR Part 61, Subpart M, and South Coast <br />Air Quality Management District's Rule 1403, all Regulated Asbestos- Containing <br />Materials (RACM), Category UClass I Non - Friable and Category IUCIass II Non - <br />Friable AGMs that may become friable, must be removed prior to demolition activities. <br />In addition to asbestos regulations that control the release of asbestos to the ambient <br />environment, state worker protection laws are applicable. Federal and State OS11A <br />regulations outline specific work practices for handling ACMs. <br />190 -52 <br />
