49 Code of Federal Regulations Part 24 implements the "Uniform <br />Act" in accordance with the following relocation assistance <br />objective: <br />To ensure that persons displaced as a direct result of <br />federal or federally- assisted projects are treated fairly, <br />consistently and equitably so that such persons will not <br />suffer disproportionate injuries as a result of projects <br />designed for the benefit of the public as a whole. <br />While every effort has been made to assure the accuracy of this <br />booklet, it should be understood that it does not have the force and <br />effect of law, rule, or regulation governing the payment of benefits. <br />Should any difference or error occur, the law will take precedence. <br />Some Important Definitions... <br />Your relocation benefits can be better understood if you become <br />familiar with the following terms: <br />Comparable Replacement: means a dwelling which is: <br />1. Decent, safe, and sanitary. (See definition below) <br />2. Functionally equivalent to the displaced dwelling. <br />3. Adequate in size to accommodate the family being relocated. <br />4. In an area not subject to unreasonable adverse environmental <br />conditions. <br />5.
