• David Abud, resident of Los Angeles, works with Immigrant Youth <br />Coalition at Deportation Center; urged all to take a stand against <br />deportation and criminalization of families and transgender people. <br />• Yamily Pardio, opined that ICE contract does not allow some members <br />of community to trust police department; urged release of detainees; <br />need to represent Santa Ana community. <br />• Danny Martinez, organizer against deportation efforts and educator; <br />requested proactive decision on ICE contract. <br />• Edna Monroy, member of California Immigrant Youth Justice <br />Allegiance, requested release of transgender sisters; City to fund <br />essential programs. <br />• Christina Fialho, attorney and Co- Executive Director of Community <br />Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants, national group that monitors <br />initiatives; opposed to recommendation #3; supports termination of <br />contract with ICE, outreach community organizations on reuse and <br />services; opposed to pilot program that will further support detention. <br />• Jan Meslin, resident of Mission Viejo and member of CIVIC, noted that <br />those she has visited at the jail are not serving time for a crime; opined <br />that support services needed if members released; opposed to <br />recommendation #3. <br />• Wes Parker, member of The Remembrance Project; urged all to <br />respect immigration laws, supports ICE contract. <br />• Mike McGet, member of The Remembrance Project, supports ICE <br />contract; important to keep City safe; spoke against illegal immigrants. <br />• Rev. Kent Doss, member of The Remembrance Project, supports <br />termination of contract when alternatives have been set -up. <br />• Robin Hvidston, resident of Claremont and member of The <br />Remembrance Project, supports Santa Ana Jail - offers humane <br />services and model for other jails. <br />• Jessica Ciefuegos, does not support or oppose ICE contract, but <br />wanted to recount her positive experience as a transgender detainee. <br />• Stella Stephens, commented that detention is available for those that <br />have committed crime; supports renewal of ICE contract and services <br />offered at Santa Ana Jail. <br />• Etta Harbin, reported that she took a tour of the jail, very impressed; <br />supports ICE contract. <br />• Laura Kantor, Director of Policy Advocacy of LGBT; concerned with <br />number of transgender people that have been murdered; urged City <br />Council to end contract with ICE within 6 months and implement <br />alternative detention programs. <br />• Vaughn Becht, resident of Westminster, supports detention of those <br />that commit crime. <br />• Betty Robinson, supports ICE contract; took tour of jail and pleased <br />with cleanliness. <br />• Robert Lauten, supports renewal of ICE contract; opposed to study on <br />reuse; facility should remain a jail. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 24 MAY 17, 2016 <br />1 OA -24 <br />
