REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />JUNE 21, 2016 <br />TITLE: <br />DONATION TO SUPPORT SANTA ANA <br />UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT'S <br />GRADUATION CEREMONIES AT <br />CENTENNIAL PARK <br />{STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5,4) <br />CITY MANA <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />_--:• 1 <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />Iyl��ialL�ltl�l:7 <br />Approve a donation request from the Santa Ana Unified School District for a one -time donation in <br />the amount of $3,000. <br />DISCUSSION <br />On August 4, 2015, City Council adopted Resolution 2015 -042, establishing a City Council <br />Special Event Sponsorship Policy and guidelines for disbursement of discretionary funds. The <br />resolution and policy outline eligibility criteria for neighborhood associations and eligible non - profit <br />entities for consideration of City Council sponsorship. <br />In accordance with this policy, each Councilmember is allowed to appropriate up to $10,000 per <br />fiscal year to support eligible organizations, including neighborhood associations and non - profit <br />organizations. Eligible organizations that are not tax exempt under section 501(c)3 of the Internal <br />Revenue Code are eligible for in -kind funding for City Services. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Sarmiento, Councilmember Reyna, and Councilmember Tinajero recommend <br />appropriating $400, $2,000, and $600, respectively, for a total one -time donation amount of <br />$3,000, to support Santa Ana Unified School District's graduation ceremonies that are to be held <br />from Monday, June 13, 2016 through Thursday, June 16, 2016, in response to a donation request <br />submitted by the Santa Ana Unified School District (Exhibit 1). Upon approval of the donation <br />request, funds in the amount of $3,000 will be appropriated to pay for City fees, including facility <br />reservation fees and staff fees. These costs are outlined in the attached invoice (Exhibit 2). <br />2513-1 <br />
