GENERAL FUND <br />PARKS, RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICESPROGRAM <br />Library Young Adult Services <br />01111180 <br />Statement of Purpose <br />To provide Santa Ana teens and young adults a safe place to study and gather friends, and with materials, mentoring and <br />training to develop civic engagement and enhance personal development. <br />Young Adult Services serves patrons from high-school age through college age. They are assisted in choosing books, <br />audiovisual and electronic materials, and in the use of library resources and services. This section evaluates library materials for <br />purchase and for removal from the young adult collections in accord with the collection development plan. Young Adult <br />Services develops and implements programs to assist teens and young adults in furthering their education, improving their <br />personal lives and preparing for their future. It manages the Library's volunteer program. It also staffs and maintains the Santa <br />Ana History Room, which collects and makes available to the public materials on Santa Ana history. It staffs the TeenSpace at <br />the Main Library, Newhope branch, Garfield Community Center and the Jerome Recreation Center. <br />Accomplishments in FY 2015-2016 <br />* <br />Managed and implemented the 5th year of the WIOA grant funded "Seeds to Trees Digital Media Technology Academy" that <br />provides paid internship to 22+ by cooperating with other sections and local businesses to train and mentor young adults in <br /> <br />digital media. Applied for and received a $500,000 grant to prototype a Memories of Migration Teen Community Historian <br /> <br />program. Piloted the first year of the Strategic Plan Youth Civic Engagement Initiative, which has thus far coordinated 40 <br />events/activities for 7483 participants <br />Action Plan for FY 2016-17 <br />* <br />Continue to seek out resources to fund programs that promote youth development, civic engagement and workforce skills <br />development. Continue to provide extensive educational and recreational programs for teens at all 4 sites. Expand the scope of <br /> <br />operations of the Santa Ana History Room through grants and integration of youth into this programming. Continue Seeds to <br /> <br />Trees model of youth workforce development and expand to other professional areas.
