REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />AUGUST 2, 2016 <br />TITLE: <br />LEAGUE OF CALIFORNIA CITIES VOTING <br />DELEGATE <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5, 1) <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />r2 =11060 1 -W <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 18` Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />CITY MANAG <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Designate a voting delegate and two alternates for the League of California Cities' Annual <br />Business Meeting scheduled for October 7, 2016. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />This year's League Annual Conference is scheduled for Wednesday, October 5 through October <br />7, 2016 in Long Beach. One very important aspect of the Annual Conference is the annual <br />Business Meeting when the membership takes action on conference resolutions. <br />To expedite the conduct of business, every City is being requested to designate a voting <br />representative and two alternates who will be present the City at the Business Meeting. League <br />bylaws provide that each city is entitled to one vote and to determine a city position in matters <br />affecting municipal or League policy matters. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #5 - Community Health, Livability, <br />Engagement & Sustainability, Objective #1 (Establish a comprehensive community engagement <br />initiative to expand access to information and create opportunities for stakeholders to play an <br />active role in discussing public policy and setting priorities). <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. <br />Maria D.
