City of Santa Ana CDBG Scope of Work <br />Program Year 2016-17 (July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017) <br />Name of Organization The Cambodian <br />Name of Funded Prograr Plan Ahead Youth Program <br />Annual Accomplishment Goal <br />Unduplicated1TOTAL anticipated to be served during the 1 94%1 h contract period. <br />90 TOTAL � 85 Santa Ana Participants 94% 88 Low Income Participants 98% <br />Program and Funding Description <br />Plan Ahead Youth Program provides services to 60 low-income youths in Santa Ana through activities that are <br />organized around our four well -integrated institutes (described below). In addition, our PAYP provides 30 parents <br />of our youths with parenting skills to better support and become more active in their children's lives. Youth <br />program activities take place after school, Tuesday through Friday, from 3:30-6 PM at The Cambodian Family <br />Community Center, and on Wednesdays, from 1:00-3:30 PM at the Minnie Street Family Resource Center (MSFRC), <br />our community partner and a "One Stop Shop" that provides services and support systems that build on family <br />strengths. Pro -social and enrichment activities are some times held on Saturdays from 9 AM - 3 PM. Youths attend <br />our program year-round, an average of 6-8 hours per week. Staff are bilingual in Cambodian or Spanish. All <br />activities are lead by a partnership of program staff and community volunteers. <br />Academic Institute: Students develop a strong foundation in STEM subjects, strengthen reading and writing skills, <br />improve overall academic performance, improve technological competency, graduate high school, and plan their <br />paths toward college. PAYP gives students access to our multi -faceted community center equipped with <br />computers, high-speed internet, printing, and a small library to support their learning. Program staff work closely <br />with college students and other community volunteers to provide 1.5 hours of daily tutoring as well as academic <br />workshops to improve their study skills. <br />Leadership Institute: Through weekly Life Skills classes, we help youths develop leadership and social skills, and <br />improve self-esteem and character strengths. <br />Career Institute: To help youths plan their paths towards becoming a contributing member of society, we host <br />career guest speaker presentations and workshops on the benefits of higher education/ community service and its <br />gateway to a wider range of different career options. We host an optional music class to students who want to <br />explore artistic options. <br />Health Institute: Youths develop a health conscious lifestyle through healthy eating and active living. Students <br />engage in 30 minutes of daily exercise during recreation time and offer an optional mixed -martial arts class. We <br />offer monthly workshops to discuss the importance of good nutrition, proper portion sizes, and healthy eating. <br />In order to increase the likelihood of youth's successes, parents are strongly encouraged to be involved in our <br />program.
