REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />AUGUST 16, 2016 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION ADJUSTMENT FOR THE <br />NATIONAL MEDAL FOR MUSEUM AND <br />LIBRARY SERVICE AWARD <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 2,2A) <br />A 1 <br />Y <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1't Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 20d Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing Fore <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment recognizing grant revenue in the amount of $5,000 in the <br />Library Grants revenue account (no. 15311002 52000) and appropriating funds to the Library <br />Grants expenditure account (no. 15311160 63001). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The National Medal for Museum and Library Service is the nation's highest award for Museum <br />and Library Service. The award honors outstanding institutions that make significant and <br />exceptional contributions to their communities. It is awarded annually to five libraries and five <br />museums by the Institute for Museum and Library Services. The libraries are selected from <br />among the nation's 123,000 libraries by a presidentially- appointed Board. Recipient institutions <br />receive the National Medal at a ceremony held at the White House in Washington, D.C., along <br />with a $5,000 award in recognition of their extraordinary civic, educational, economic, <br />environmental, and social contributions. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item allows the City to meet Goal #2 - Youth, Education, Recreation, Objective <br />#2 (Expand youth programming), Strategy A (Focus resources on quality youth engagement, <br />civic awareness, enrichment and educational programs (i.e. youth camping trips) and expand <br />after - school programs during out -of- school hours at the library and community centers). <br />20A -1 <br />
