The award honors outstanding institutions that make significant and <br />exceptional contributions to their communities. It is awarded annually to five libraries and five <br />museums by the Institute for Museum and Library Services. The libraries are selected from <br />among the nation's 123,000 libraries by a presidentially- appointed Board. Recipient institutions <br />receive the National Medal at a ceremony held at the White House in Washington, D.C., along <br />with a $5,000 award in recognition of their extraordinary civic, educational, economic, <br />environmental, and social contributions. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item allows the City to meet Goal #2 - Youth, Education, Recreation, Objective <br />#2 (Expand youth programming), Strategy A (Focus resources on quality youth engagement, <br />civic awareness, enrichment and educational programs (i.e. youth camping trips) and expand <br />after - school programs during out -of- school hours at the library and community centers). <br />20A -1 <br />
