REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />AUGUST 16, 2016 <br />TITLE; <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE <br />SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS FOR <br />CALRECYCLE ILLEGAL DISPOSAL <br />SITE ABATEMENT GRANT PROGRAM <br />FUNDS <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5,2) <br />'ClYf MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />F-VJ9;T*R4kI <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />Ordinance on Ian Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the Executive Director of the Parks, Recreation, and Community <br />Services Agency to submit applications for California Department of Resources Recycling and <br />Recovery (CalRecycle) grant programs to support the City of Santa Ana's illegal disposal site <br />abatement efforts. <br />DISCUSSION <br />California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) offers funding <br />opportunities that can assist local government entities in the furtherance of the State of <br />California's efforts to reduce, recycle and reuse solid waste generated in the state thereby <br />preserving landfill capacity and protecting public health and safety, and the environment. This <br />funding provides for the implementation of programming that supports illegal disposal site <br />abatement. <br />CalRecycle requires a resolution approving submission of the City's applications for Illegal <br />Disposal Site Abatement Grant funds. The resolution, which is effective for a period of five <br />years, authorizes the City of Santa Ana to submit applications, and authorizes the Executive <br />Director of Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, or his /her designee, to execute the <br />necessary applications and documents to implement and secure payment of these State funds. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #5 — Community Health, Livability, <br />Engagement & Sustainability, Objective #2 (expand opportunities for conservation and <br />environmental sustainability). <br />55A -1 <br />
