CITY COUNCILMEMBER COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Martinez: <br />• Excited about upcoming Groundbreaking event of the Depot at Santiago <br />housing project; will tie to Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center <br />(SARTC); <br />• Invited all to participate in upcoming Open Streets / 5K / Ciclovia Event on <br />August 20tt; encouraged residents to sign up for VIP basketball team, may <br />contact her directly if interested in playing basketball; <br />• Thanked staff for updates, supports General Plan Update; need adequate <br />staff and funding; what are the next steps and possibility of a draft within 6 to <br />8 months? <br />• Business owner, Robert Escalante, expressed concern with increased <br />shootings in the City; has not received update on plan to address shootings <br />that were requested previously; spoke of correlation with code enforcement <br />and quality of life; requested code enforcement calls for service report; <br />important to make public safety a top priority; and <br />• Adjournment in memory of Tixoc Ventura. <br />Councilmember Tinajero: <br />• Thanked our police officers, many bilingual, and Police Chief for leadership; <br />and <br />• Commented that as policy makers need to be strategic in how City handles <br />calls for service; quality of life issues; homeless; code enforcement, among <br />other issues. <br />Councilmember Reyna: <br />• Urged all to be water wise; <br />• Attended Youth Camp Trip to Catalina last week along with young children <br />from our community; <br />• City's Ciclovia coming up — invited all to participate in 5K Run on August 20th; <br />• City held first Movies at the Park event; and <br />• Asked all to shop in Santa Ana as back to school approaching. <br />Councilmember Benavides: <br />• Happy early birthday to Councilmember Martinez; <br />• Encouraged all to participate in upcoming 5K run; <br />• Santa Ana Zoo will be hosting Zoofari on August 27th; <br />• On August 20th Townsend Neighborhood hosting fair; <br />• Supports local businesses and economic development; and <br />• Highlighted life of Tixoc Ventura and requested meeting be adjourned in his <br />memory. <br />" Councilmember Tinajero left the meeting at 8:47 p.m. and did not return. <br />Mayor Pulido: <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 26 AUGUST 2, 2016 <br />1 OA -26 <br />
