Contractor also understands and accepts that Civic Center area is very heavily used, <br />including increased foot traffic, and other uses and, therefore, acknowledges that he/she <br />will immediately respond to thin or bare areas in turf without delay. <br />1.6 Aeration <br />The Contractor shall aerate priority turf four (4) times per year in March, June, <br />September, and December. Aeration shall be performed by AerWay aerator using shatter <br />tines. Contractor shall perform multiple passes per the Director's Representatives <br />direction (in the same direction) in heavier compacted areas. <br />1.7 Renovation <br />The Contractor shall have a "Priority Turf Renovation Crew," separate from their <br />"Routine Maintenance Crews," to perform all aspects of the priority turf renovation <br />process. The exception to the above requirement shall be the Contractor's scheduling of <br />CMIT's, CIT's and/or CITA's to audit, repair, improve and manage the priority turf s <br />irrigation systems. <br />Renovations shall be a maximum of 12 weeks from date of closure to date of reopening: <br />during the spring/summer or the fall/winter (as determined by the Director) the <br />Contractor shall renovate priority turf using: <br />1.7.1 fall/winter— Simplot Jacklin Seed Company CSI self -repairing perennial rye seed <br />at three (3) pounds per 1,000 square feet and Stovers Seed Company Bermuda <br />Dunes seed at two (2) pounds per 1,000 square feet. <br />This shall be accomplished by mowing the existing turf down to 1/4" followed by <br />verticutting (straight blades spaced 1.25" to 1.50" apart) to remove thatch. Prior to <br />seeding, the contractor shall eradicate all weeds and have the irrigation system <br />functioning properly and have a plan to provide supplemental irrigation as necessary to <br />germinate the seed to 100%. Seeding shall be performed followed immediately by <br />covering the seed with Santa Ana Mix (STA tested and approved'/4" minus compost seed <br />topper pre mixed with California Organic 7-1-2 Phyta Boost fertilizer at a rate of 35 <br />cubic yards per acre using a Dakota Turf Tender or approved equal). <br />The Contractor shall guarantee 100% uniform germination within 10 weeks from the time <br />the first application of seed or will sod any thin or bare areas with "thick cut" (thickest <br />available cut) West Coast Turf Bandera Bermuda sod or West Coast Turf Bandera <br />Bermuda Sod that has been "cropped over" with perennial rye grass. Renovation must be <br />completed within three months of field closure. The Director's Representative shall <br />determine the quantity of thick cut sod needed to achieve 100% coverage. <br />Overseeding: Once per month the Contractor shall overseed priority turf at a rate of one <br />(1) pound per 1,000 square feet by mowing the existing turf down to 1/2" followed by <br />verticutting (straight blades spaced 1.25" to 1.50" apart) to remove thatch.
