Director's Representative, is not permitted. Topping of plants whose natural <br />growth stems from the base of the plant is not permitted. Should the Contractor <br />top, shear hedge or severely prune plants and disfigure or damage the plants, the <br />Contractor shall be responsible for replacing those plants with like kind and size, <br />subject to approval by the Director's Representative. <br />The Contractor may be requested from time to time to raise the bottom of the <br />shrubs for security reasons. <br />3.1.2 Monthly Shrub Replanting -On a monthly basis the Contractor, at his own <br />expense, be responsible for the complete removal and replacement of poor <br />looking or unhealthy shrubs, In addition the Contractor shall, at his own expense <br />replace missing shrubs or shrubs lost due to normal attrition or due to <br />Contractor's failure to perform under the terms of this Agreement. The shrubs <br />shall be planted at appropriate spacing so as to achieve complete coverage once <br />the plant is 2/3rds mature. The Contractor replacement shrubs shall be 5 gallon <br />minimum and approved by the Director's Representative. <br />3.2 Mulching of Bare Areas <br />In all shrub areas where bare soil is visible or where the shrubs are so thin the soil is <br />visible, the Contractor shall apply US Composting Council STA tested and approved <br />compost mulch 1"-2" minus by 2" thick minimum twice annually (third week of January <br />and July) and as necessary to maintain uniform and complete coverage. Leaf litter and <br />other organic materials other than mulch shall be removed on a continuous basis. <br />4.0 Vine Care <br />4.1 Maintenance <br />Contractor shall trim the vine on a continuous basis and once it reaches the top of the <br />wall or at a specific height on the wall, as determined by the Director's Representative. <br />The Contractor shall also prune the vine back to the wall to reduce the width and weight <br />of the vine. The Contractor shall keep vines off telephone poles, plant material or other <br />non -wall surfaces at all times. <br />4.2 Planting <br />The Contractor shall irrigate and fertilize the vines as necessary to promote healthy and <br />vigorous growth. The Contractor will immediately replace any vine at the Contractor's <br />expense that is lost for any reason including but not limited to lack of water, vandalism, <br />accidental post emergent spraying, etc. <br />5.0 Tree Care <br />The Contractor shall perform all tree services per the City of Santa Ana Park Services Tree <br />Services Specifications (PSTSS) up to a height of 15'.
