NO. 16 -093) <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 6, 1C) <br />A'- y <br />CITY MANAGEFf <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERIC OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />F %JaZr]T /4i,� <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 181 Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 06 Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Target Specialty Products for soil, plant and water treatment chemicals, for a <br />one year period expiring September 30, 2017, with provisions for four one -year renewal options <br />exercisable by the City Manager, in an annual amount not to exceed $90,000, subject to non - <br />substantive changes approved by the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services and Public Works agencies require a variety of <br />herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers to control and eradicate weeds and insects, and to sustain <br />abundant plant growth and maintain healthy trees. Additionally, chemicals such as hydrochloric <br />acid and sodium hypochlorite are required to disinfect public swimming pools, water fountains, <br />lakes and ponds throughout the City. The chemicals are purchased through the Central Stores <br />warehouse for distribution to the agencies. The contract for chemicals is designed to provide <br />quality products at significant savings based on quantity pricing. <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on August 5, 2016, on the City's online bid management and <br />publication system. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is as follows: <br />56 Vendors were notified <br />18 Vendors downloaded the bid packet <br />3 Bids received <br />0 Bid received from a Santa Ana vendor <br />Bids were solicited, opened on August 25, 2016, and evaluated (Exhibit 1). The bid received from <br />Target Specialty Products is responsive to the specifications and meets the City's requirements. <br />The annual amount is based on past usage and staffs projection for the next year. <br />22A -1 <br />
