REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />OCTOBER 4, 2016 <br />TITLE: <br />RESOLUTION TO SUPPORT THE <br />SMITHSONIAN AMERICAN LATINO <br />MUSEUM AND DESIGNATE THE ARTS & <br />INDUSTRIES BUILDING <br />{STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 5,5) <br />r <br />c <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERIC OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 1®t Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Adopt a Resolution of the City Council in support of House of Representatives 6001 and Senate <br />3314 to establish the Smithsonian American Latino Museum and Designate the Arts and Industries <br />Building as its future location in Washington, D.C. <br />DISCUSSION <br />At the September 20, 2016 City Council meeting, Councilmember Roman Reyna and <br />Councilmember Benavides presented item 85A directing staff to develop a Resolution in support of <br />H.R. 6001 and S. 3314 to establish the Smithsonian American Latino Museum and Designate the <br />Arts and Industries Building as its future location in Washington, D.C. <br />City of Santa Ana desires to support the establishment of the proposed National Museum on the <br />National Mall in Washington, D.C., among the other landmark Smithsonian Institutions, to highlight <br />the history, contributions and successes of the Latino community, the largest demographic minority <br />population in the United States <br />Council adoption of this Resolution is required to finalize said Resolution (Exhibit 1). <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #5 - Community Health, Livability, <br />Engagement & Sustainability, Objective #5 (promote strong arts and culture infrastructure). <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />No fiscal impacts associated with this item. <br />EXHIBIT: 1.
