Though we formed in 2013, we inherited the files
and some programming of the former property -based improvement district before with
the same name that dates back to 2009.
Included in that programming was the management of Artwalk. Artwalk continued to be
managed by the same Downtown Inc. staff, Jose Romo, Claudia Lavini and Wendy
Boelter, who were hired as independent contractors.
In 2014, Downtown Inc. hired Lead Consultant, Ryan Smolar, who set forth a series of
organizational and strategic changes to further connect Downtown Inc. to the
community and to empower the various arts and cultural elements making downtown <
cultural destination.
In 2015, a new Artwalk management team was formed under Smolar including:
" Artwalk Coordinator, Yenny Bernal, a local artists who was the gallery co- coordinator
for Downtown's Avant Garden Gallery and a regular arts instructor at the Bowers
Museum, Latino Health Access and Orange County Therapeutic Arts Center
