The first is to provide a safe haven where
youths, 1st grade through high school (12th grade), can gather without the fear, of
gang violence or intimidation. The environment at the SAPAAL enables them to study,
complete homework, and work on school projects, Students have access to computers,
educational materials and supplies, and tutoring, The second step is providing
students the opportunity to participate in educational and recreational field trips
whish expand their knowledge, social, cultural, environmental, and civic awareness by
exposure to experiences they might not encounter due to their socio-eeonomic status.
Finally, the athletic and fitness programs coached by police officers teach youth the
importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-discipline. This aspect of the program
builds the bonds of trust and communication between youth and law enforcement.
SAPAAL programming is implemented year-round.
