CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ON <br /> DEVELOPMENT AND TRANSPORTATION <br /> Special Meeting Minutes <br /> February 11, 2016 <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> The meeting was called to order at 5:04 p.m. in Room 1600 of the City Hall Ross Annex. <br /> ATTENDANCE <br /> The following Committee Members were present: Vicente Sarmiento <br /> David Benavides <br /> Staff present were: David Cavazos, City Manager; Fred Mousavipour, Executive <br /> Director/Public Works Agency; William Galvez, City Engineer; Nabil Saba, Water <br /> Resources Manager; Taig Higgins, Principal Civil Engineer; Christy Kindig, Projects <br /> Manager; Jorge Garcia, Senior Management Assistant; Julie Castro-Cardenas, Senior <br /> Management Assistant; Suzi Furjanic, Associate Park Planner; Lorrie Ortiz, PWA <br /> Executive Secretary. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENTS — None <br /> AGENDA ITEMS <br /> 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES — Special Meeting of December 9, 2015 <br /> Motion by Committee Member Benavides and seconded by Chairman <br /> Sarmiento to approve the Minutes, and approved unanimously by a vote <br /> of 2:0. <br /> 2. STREETCAR PROJECT UPDATE {Strategic Plan Nos. 6, 1G; 3, 2C} <br /> City Manager David Cavazos provided an update of the streetcar project, stating <br /> that the project is on schedule, and that President Obama has approved funding <br /> of$125 million that will be matched with local Measure M funding; a designer has <br /> been selected; staff is working closely with OCTA, particularly on the <br /> Memorandum of Understanding to assure the high quality, and the streetcar is <br /> expected to be operational in 2020. Other milestones include design and <br /> construction which will each take approximately 18 months, and vehicle <br /> procurement. A legislative timetable will be provided in the future. <br /> 3. PROJECT W: SAFE TRANSIT STOPS {Strategic Plan No. 6, 1G} <br /> Associate Park Planner Suzi Furjanic provided a handout and overview of the <br /> bus shelter project. Directives provided at the last Council Committee meeting <br /> were to research other cities and countries; attempt to make the transit stops <br />
