Mitre -Ramirez, Norma
From: Carlos Hernandez <
Sent: Tuesday, February 7, 2017 3:46 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Comment on Ordinance to Regulate Mobile Food Vending Vehicles
Categories: Correspondence
I'm writing to express my total disdain to the proposed ordinance to prohibit mobile food vending vehicles as
written. This ordinance would dis proportionally impact communities of color in the city in terms of eliminating
their source of income and further criminalizing them in favor of the prison industrial complex. In a time where
our communities are under constant and relentless attack by those in power at the federal government it is
imperative that action is taken by local jurisdictions to protect these communities from punitive actions that
would place them at risk of proposed federal actions such as mass deportation of those with "criminal records."
The proposed ordinance would only allow for increased criminalization of those communities which would be
the most affected by such proposed federal actions. Santa Ana should follow the example of the City of Los
Angeles, who has chosen to protect its residents by taking steps to legalize street vending. In the city of Santa
Ana the step should be to stop this ordinance to prevent the criminalizing those whom up to now have been
protected.
Sincerely,
Carlos Hernandez
PRIVACY NOTICE: This email transmission, and any documents, files or previous email messages attached to it, may contain confidential information that is
legally privileged.
