CITY OF SANTA ANA <br /> <br />'ACTION OF <br /> <br /> CLERK OF THE COUNCIL <br /> <br />SANITATION INSPECTOR II, <br /> <br />DEI"I NITION <br /> <br />This is leadman investigative work in enforcing the regulations relating to <br />solid waste collection, rubbish and weed nuisances. <br /> <br />.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES <br /> <br />In a leadman capacity, determines and makes work distribution assignments related <br />to work performance of the solid waste collection contractor, citizen complaints <br />regarding solid waste collection service, and complaints regarding littering, outside <br />storage and weed nuisances on private property. Makes field inspections throughout <br />the City on work performed by the City solid waste collection contractor to determine <br />that service given is in accord with City regulations and contract requirements. <br />Investigates complaints made by citizens regarding solid waste collection s~rvice, <br />rubbish or weed nuisances. Discusses with residents and property owners the type <br />of service to which they are entitled and explains the regulations regarding their <br />responsibility. Discusses with.supervisor or contractor's representative the <br />advisability for ro6te changes. Cooperates closely in the field with the City <br />solid waste collection contractor, the Fire Department and the County Health Depart- <br />ment to prevent and eliminate illegal, unsightly, hazardous, or unhealthy solid <br />waste collection, weeds, littering or storage problems. Assists in coordinating the <br />survey, plotting, posting, inspection and cost spread involved in the annual weed <br />abatement program. Posts placards as necessary for street abandonments, assessment <br />districts and other municipal activities. May issue citations for weed nuisances <br />and illegal rubbish, litter and other trash accumulation. <br /> <br />DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS <br /> <br />Work of this class involves the responsibility ~6r checking the work performance of <br />the municipal solid waste collection contractor and the inves.tigation of complaints <br />regarding solid waste collection, weed nuisances, and illegal rubbish, litter and <br />other trash accumulation. An employee in the' class serves as a laadman for Sanitation <br />Inspectors I and receives general supervisionfrom the Construction Engineer. _ <br /> <br />MINIMUM BASIC REQuIREMeNTS <br /> <br />Three years of experience in work involving public contact, including one year in t} <br />field of so'lid waste collection and disposal, and completion of high school; or an <br />equivalent combination of experience and education. Must possess a valid California <br />drivers' license. <br /> <br />DESIRABLE .KNOWJMDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br /> <br />Considerable knowledge of work methods involved in solid waste collection and' <br />disposal. Working knowledge of the solid waste.collection regulations. Working <br />knowledge of the requirements of the solid waste collection contracts. Ability to <br />deal with the public, s~netimes under difficult circumstances, and to maintain <br />effective relationships with other employees and the public. <br /> <br /> <br />
