POSSIBLE CHANGES
in
REFUSE COLLECTION RULES AND REGULATIONS
CHANGE 1: Amend the contract with Great Western to provide that all refuse
in the City will be collected at least once eachweek on a regular
schedule and to provide that any commercial users who require or
desire to have more frequent collection may contract with the collector
for the extra service at uniform rates,
REASON: This will delete the special treatment for daily pickup afforded
certain portions of the Commercial areas since this contract was
initiated in 1963 and provide uniform treatment for all commercial
areas of the City.
CHANGE 2: Reduce container and single item maximum weight limits from
60 to 50 pounds.
REASON: To help reduce the number of back injuries to employees; trash
collectors have the highest occupational injury rate of all
J industries.
CHANGE 3: Add Memorial Day to the list of holidays.
REASON: To conform to actual practice for several years.
CHANGE 4: Prohibit the use of regular paper bags as containers or other
materials which become unusable when wet or which are easily
scattered by wind or animals, and provide for the collection of
cardboard boxes used as containers.
REASON: To help improve the cleanliness and appearance of the City by
implementing in this fashion the existing regulations which provide
that refuse containers suitable for collection purposes shall be
provided by the owner or occupant and maintained in good and sanitary
condition.
J I
