Amendment to Agreement With <br /> Waste Management Inc. <br /> May 20, 2002 <br /> Page 2 <br /> • With this service 2 men in a front-load vehicle will spend 60 hours, <br /> moving through the neighborhoods, picking up debris left in the <br /> parkways from the garage sales . This service will occur 4 times a <br /> year. <br /> • Since garage sales are held primarily by residential customers, the <br /> cost of the service ($19, 200 per year) will be charged to the <br /> curbside customer. The added cost will be $ . 04 per month. <br /> Alley Clean-Up Following the 1st of the Month in Problem Locations <br /> • Increased dumping in the alleys occurs following the 1st of the <br /> month when apartment and commercial tenants move. Additional clean- <br /> up will be added the week following the 1st of each month (Monday <br /> through Saturday) . <br /> • With this service 2 men in a front-load vehicle will spend 60 hours <br /> picking up debris left in the alleys . The service will be focused <br /> in those areas of the City where we traditionally have problems with <br /> illegally dumped debris . (Exhibits 1 and 2) . This service will <br /> occur 12 times a year. <br /> • Since the apartments and businesses generate this added debris, the <br /> cost of the service ($57, 600 per year) will be charged to commercial <br /> and apartment customers . The added monthly cost is shown on Exhibits <br /> 3 and 4 and will vary with the refuse service of the individual <br /> business/apartment complex. <br /> The two part-time maintenance personnel in the City' s Maintenance <br /> Division currently assigned to alley clean up will continue with that <br /> service. It is recommended that the City augment its current services <br /> with these two alternatives on a trial basis and evaluate their <br /> effectiveness at the end of a one-year period. <br /> ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br /> There is no environmental impact associated with this action. <br /> FISCAL IMPACT <br /> Implementation of the recommended alternatives will require an increase <br /> in refuse rates . The cost to add the parkway maintenance will be $ . 04 <br /> (from $13 . 74 to $13 . 78 per month) for each curbside customer. <br /> 25 . 0 . Page 182 <br />
