Approve the proposed Fiscal Year 2017 -2018 Community Development Block Grant <br />Program in the estimated amount of $5,771,317, subject to adjustment upon notification of <br />the Grant Year 2017 award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; <br />2. Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and the Clerk of the <br />Council to execute memorandums of understanding with various city departments and <br />agreements with nonprofit agencies awarded funds as part of the approved program, subject <br />to funding adjustment upon notification of the Grant Year 2017 award from the U.S. <br />Department of Housing and Urban Development and non - substantive changes approved by <br />the City Manager and City Attorney. <br />COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />At a Special Meeting on April 5, 2017, the Community Redevelopment and Housing Commission <br />recommended approval of the Fiscal Year 2017 -2018 Community Development Block Grant <br />public service programs to the City Council by a vote of 4:0 (Cano and A. Garcia absent, <br />Aguinaga abstained) for nonprofit organizations (Exhibit 1). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The City of Santa Ana receives an annual allocation of Community Development Block Grant <br />(CDBG) funds from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to <br />improve low to moderate - income neighborhoods, eliminate blight and create a more stable <br />economic base. These funds may be used for a diverse range of programs including housing, <br />street improvements, park and public facilities improvements, economic development, code <br />enforcement and public services. The City's estimated CDBG allocation for Grant Year (GY) <br />2017, Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 -18, is $5,127,675 and reflects an estimated three percent reduction <br />from the current year allocation. <br />75C -1 <br />
