This grant provides potential partners with a $3 million <br />competitive grant opportunity to develop sustainable programs that support compliance with state - <br />mandated waste diversion goals and promote increased regional recycling and diversion efforts. With the <br />passage of AB 939, AB 341, AB 1594, AB 1826 and many other laws, the State continues to issue <br />mandates and goals to divert waste from landfills. <br />The Regional Recycling and Waste Reduction Grant is a five -year program. It provides funding for new <br />programs or enhancements to existing programs that promote and sustain recycling and waste reduction in <br />Orange County. Eligible applicants must be prepared to contribute funds to grant projects in years two <br />through five. The City's funding requirement for sustainability will be achieved by the rate structure to be <br />established for AB 1826 compliance, the State - mandated organics recycling bill. Eligible grant applicants <br />include incorporated and unincorporated Orange County cities, special districts, and non - profit <br />organizations. Private environmental services and solid waste management entities may partner with <br />eligible applicants, but are not eligible to apply on their own. <br />Eligible Projects include, but are not limited to: <br />• Commercial and Residential Recycling Programs <br />• Organic Commercial and Residential Recycling Programs <br />• Composting Programs <br />• Educational and Outreach Programs <br />55C -1 <br />
