ORANGE COUNTY CONSERVATION CORPS <br />SANTA ANA YOUTH WORKFORCE INVESTMENT ACT PROPOSAL 2017-2018 <br />1. Experience/Qualifications <br />A. Briefly describe your agency. The Orange County Conservation Corps (OCCC) is a nonprofit, <br />certified local conservation corps, one of 14 certified local conservation corps in California. As a <br />certified local conservation corps, the OCCC operates under the California Public Resources <br />Code which mandates several program components, including paid work experience, job <br />training, education, life skills and pre-employment training. <br />B. Indicate hours of operation for facility. OCCC offices are open Monday—Thursday from 7:00 <br />am to 5:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am to 12:OOpm. Additional week -end and evening hours to <br />be arranged depending on individual participant needs, scheduled events, and activities. <br />D. Briefly indicate what makes your facility youth friendly and suitable for the proposed <br />program. The facility is designed in a regular classroom setting with a certificated teacher <br />assigned to each classroom. All classrooms are equipped with computers and internet access <br />for Corpsmember use. Pictures of Corpsmember accomplishments and success boards are <br />displayed throughout the facility. A resource area is designated for Corpsmembers to access <br />medical, health, community information, and job leads as well there are two computer labs, in <br />which tutoring sessions, online courses, workshops, career exploration assessments, and many <br />other activities take place. The Corps -to -Career Specialist has a private office equipped with <br />two computers in order to provide individual guidance, mock interviews, resume development <br />assistance, and career exploration tools. There are spaces available in which case managers <br />work with Corpsmembers one-on-one to provide needed support services. A feedback box is <br />available for Corpsmembers to provide suggestions or request additional services. The facility is <br />close to public transportation, and the OCCC provides transportation assistance in the form of <br />bus passes, gas cards, and company vehicles. Online classes are also available for students for <br />whom transportation or childcare is difficult. <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
