Need:: <br />$5000 <br />I am applying for:: <br />Other <br />If other please state below:: <br />I am applying for all of the above, materials, supplies, and equipment to bring this new <br />sculpture to downtown Santa Ana. <br />Artist Statement: <br />Diana Markessinis is a Santa Ana based sculptor and fabricator especially known for <br />welding organic forms out of salvaged metal. In 2007 she received her Masters of Fine <br />Art from California State University, Fullerton, CA and her undergraduate degree in <br />sculpture from West Virginia University (2003), attending special workshops at the <br />Pont-Aven School of Contemporary Art, France and the Haystack Mountain School of <br />Craft in Deer Isle, in Maine. Markessinis has her work currently installed at the Newport <br />Beach Civic Center Sculpture Park, the Los Angeles Arboretum, Park Santiago Nature <br />Center in Santa Ana, and The Artist Village in downtown Santa Ana. Other projects <br />include Ten Feet along the LA River, The Rails for Trails Sculpture Garden in West <br />Virginia and private residences throughout Southern California. She has had numerous <br />exhibitions in Southern California, including Pulling the Forest Along the Road a NEA <br />Grant project with Hope Center for the Arts and Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana, <br />CA. Markessinis has received awards and grants from The Hoff Foundation (2009) and <br />California State University Fullerton Art Alliance (2006). <br />Narrative for proposed use of funds:: <br />Funds would be used to purchase the raw materials for the sculpture as well as the <br />materials needed to create this piece, my welder and various hand tools, require <br />supplies like gas, wire, grinding discs, etc. The remainder of the funds would go to <br />design, labor, studio overhead costs and a professional team to install the sculpture. <br />Supplemental Question 1:Please describe any additional City of Santa Ana <br />resources required for your project (permits, public space, licenses etc.)?: <br />This project will require an investigation of locations, I've listed some ideas in the Project <br />Description. Potential permits would be contingent on installation and approval for the <br />new sculpture. <br />Supplemental Question 2: Is this a new or existing program/project?: <br />It will be a new project designed for the specific site chosen, which I have done for the <br />Newport Beach Civic Center Sculpture Park, The Los Angeles Arboretum, The Park <br />Santiago Nature Center in Santa Ana, and my first experience with public art in 2003 in <br />Morgantown West Virginia. <br />Supplemental Question 3: How will the proposed project be presented or shared <br />
