• Carlos Melendez, member of cooperative, expressed support for colleagues; <br />proposal will assist those wanting to start a business and create new <br />opportunities for many. <br />• Ana Urzua, Director of Santa Ana Building Healthy Communities coalition, <br />commended the City Council for considering cooperatives matter; have been <br />successful across the country; investment in the community, local economy, <br />building community wealth, also other cooperatives already exist in Santa <br />Ana that are by the coalition; presented letter of support from CIELO for the <br />record. <br />Council discussion ensued. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Martinez, expressed strong support for Worker Cooperatives; <br />requested 90 day continuance. <br />Councilmember Solorio, thanked staff and City Council for brining matter <br />forward; as City develops new process to allow for implementation creativity; <br />want all Cooperatives to succeed; profit sharing concept to be supported and <br />also legitimize the underground businesses. <br />Councilmember Sarmiento, noted that proposal recognizes the entrepreneurial <br />businesses that already exists in our community; encouraged communication <br />and outreach to other members of our community about cooperative. <br />MOTION: <br />1. Adopt a resolution. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2017-054 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING DEVELOPMENT AND <br />GROWTH OF WORKER COOPERATIVES IN SANTA ANA <br />2. Direct staff to evaluate and provide recommendations on how the City <br />can incentivize and assist in enabling the formation of worker <br />cooperatives. <br />3.
