REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />OCTOBER 17, 2017 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROVE APPOINTMENT OF DEBRA BAETZ <br />TO THE WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT <br />BOARD REPRESENTING ORANGE COUNTY <br />SOCIAL SERVICES AGENCY <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO 5, 1) <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on I" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2n° Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Appoint Debra Baetz, Director Family Self Sufficiency and Adult Services, to represent <br />Orange County Social Services Agency on the Workforce Development Board replacing <br />Nathan Nishimoto for a partial term expiring May 31, 2019. <br />WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD ACTION <br />At its regularly scheduled meeting on September 21, 2017, by a vote of 15:0 (Beasley, <br />McGowan, Tucker absent; 0 abstained) the Workforce Development Board approved the <br />recommended action. <br />DISCUSSION <br />Resolution 2016-031 was adopted by the Santa Ana City Council establishing the Santa Ana <br />Workforce Development Board (WDB). In accordance with federal legislation, a majority of the <br />board must come from the private sector with the remaining members representing education, <br />organized labor, government, economic and community development organizations. <br />Recently, Mr. Nathan Nishimoto tendered his resignation to the WDB (Exhibit 1) and submitted <br />nomination letter for Ms. Debra Baetz, Director Family Self Sufficiency and Adult Services, to <br />replace him as the County of Orange Social Services Agency representative on the Workforce <br />Development Board (Exhibit 2). <br />Ms. Baetz has expressed an interest and has confirmed that she can make the time <br />commitments necessary to serve on the board. <br />13A-1 <br />
