Activities are geared
toward recreation, but also learning and exploring new opportunities and seeing new places that the child has not been
exposed to. Examples of things matches do together can include, going to a museum, the beach, a movie, playing a sport,
or going to a local park, working on a school project, or engaging in a community service project together.
BBBSOC provides a thorough intake process whereby we assess volunteers for their skills, motivation to volunteer, and
ability to make a commitment toward having a strong impact on a child. We also conduct thorough criminal background
screenings. Additionally, we assess families to determine their child's needs and preferences so that we are able to select
an appropriate mentor for them. Once we facilitate matches, our degreed case managers serve in a social worker role and
have regular check -ins with parents, children and mentors to assess the safety and quality of the match and address any
challenges. Matches will meet on their own in the community and select to do things that are of interest to both parties.
BBBSOC also engages matches as a group at least monthly in some sort of activity so they can meet other matches and
build upon their individual relationships.
The target population is youth ages 6-18 that are in need of positive role models. Most youth we serve in Santa Ana reside
in single -parent, low-income homes. Many also live in densely populated areas such as Minnie, Townsend and Raitt Street
neighborhoods that have relatively high levels of gang influences or other negative environmental factors. While most of
the parents want to provide the best for their children, they are often constrained due to their own challenges, such as
financial constraints, cultural/language barriers, limited education, and in some cases, illness and familial dysfunction.
Schedule of Performance
Unduplicated Estimated
Participants Invoicing
Quarter 1: JUL 1 - SEP 30 12 $ 9,481
Quarter 2: OCT 1 - DEC 31 13 $ 9,481
Quarter 3: JAN 1 - MAR 31 13 $ 9,481
Quarter 4: APR 1 - JUN 30 12 $ 9,481
50 $ 37,924
Exhibit A
