FREE RECORDING PURSUANT TO <br />GOVERNMENT CODE § 27383 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2017-21 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION APPLICATION <br />NO. 2017-25 TO PLACE THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT <br />2401 NORTH FLOWER STREET, SANTA ANA, ON THE <br />HISTORICAL REGISTER AND APPROVING HISTORIC <br />REGISTER CATEGORIZATION NO. 2017-24 PLACING <br />SAID PROPERTY WITHIN THE KEY CATEGORY <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The Historic Resources Commission of the City of Santa Ana <br />hereby finds, determines and declares as follows: <br />A. On October 5, 2017 the Historic Resources Commission held a duly <br />noticed public hearing for the placement on the Santa Ana Register of <br />Historical Properties (Historic Resources Commission Application No. <br />2017-25) and categorization (Historic Resources Commission <br />Categorization No. 2017-24) of the Hull -Carlyle House located at 2401 <br />North Flower Street, Santa Ana. <br />B. The Hull -Carlyle House has distinctive architectural features of the English <br />Revival style, and was built in 1931 by Roy Russell. <br />C. This home qualifies for listing on the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties and is eligible for categorization as Key. The Hull -Carlyle <br />House qualifies for listing in the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties under Criterion 1 for its exemplification of the distinguishing <br />characteristics of the English Revival style. Typical features of this style <br />illustrated by the house include its one-story massing, low -pitch hipped <br />roof, and rectangular form; multi-level eaves; divided light casement <br />windows; restrained porch; and dominant chimney. Additionally, the house <br />has been categorized as "Key" because it "has a distinctive architectural <br />style and quality" and "is associated with a significant person or event in <br />the city." J. Wylie Carlyle, a native Santa Anan who worked as the Orange <br />County Recorder, lived in the property from some time before 1956 <br />through 1980. Character -defining features of the Hull -Carlyle House that <br />should be preserved include, but may not be limited to, materials and <br />finishes, roof shape, configuration, and eave detailing; original windows <br />where extant; brick chimney; stucco walls; porch size and shape. <br />D.
