AN
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING AN AMENDMENT
TO PROVISIONS OF CHAPTER 41 OF THE SANTA ANA MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO SECOND
DWELLING UNITS
From: Mike Tardif [maitto mike0tardif heetmetal.00m]
Sent: Tuesday, October 24, 2017 8:44 AM
Subject: RE: Planning Commission Meeting Tonight - Granny Flats Ordinance on the Agenda
Quick note —
Last night the Planning Commission approved recommending the draft Accessory Dwelling Unit Ordinance to the City
Council.
I believe this is a positive outcome for the residents of Santa Ana.
Thanks to all who worked very hard to help keep the character of Santa Ana neighborhoods intact.
And particular appreciation goes to Santa Ana's Staff for their efforts to develop an ordinance which, I believe, works
within the State framework for ADU's — and works for Santa Ana as well.
Thank you all,
Mike Tardif
From: Mike Tardif [
Sent: Monday, October 23, 2017 1:18 PM
Subject: Planning Commission Meeting Tonight - Granny Flats Ordinance on the Agenda
City of Santa Ana Planning Commission Meeting Tonight - Agenda
OCTOBER 23, 2017 CITY COUNCIL CHAMBER
22 Civic Center Plaza Santa Ana, California 5:30 P.M.
4. ZONING ORDINANCE AMENDMENT TO ADOPT A LOCAL ORDINANCE REGULATING THE
ESTABLISHMENT OF ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS
STAFF RECOMMENDED ACTION: Recommend that the City Council adopt an ordinance approving Zoning
Ordinance Amendment No. 2017-04
Personal note: I have reviewed the City's draft ordinance, and as far as I can tell, it addresses each item as
detailed below in the excellent update which was previously provided by Mary Thompson. In my (lay
person) opinion the ordinance, if adopted as drafted, meets residents' request for an Accessory Dwelling
Unit Ordinance which better fits Santa Ana neighborhoods than the more rigid requirements, if left in place,
of the State of California.
I personally support the City of Santa Ana Draft ADU Ordinance. Thank you to Santa Ana residents, staff and
elected officials who worked to make this proposed ordinance work for our City.
Mike Tardif
