Include design, materials, condition, alterations, size, setting, and boundaries.)
Moved to French Park in 1987, the Harmon -McNeil House is an outstanding example of the combination of Stick/Eastlake
with Queen Anne design. The house originally faced north and was re -oriented to face west when it was moved. It is two
stories in height and capped by a steeply hipped roof with lower cross gables on the now west (front) and north elevations. A
frieze, articulated by vertical strips and paneling, wraps the building below boxed eaves. Dentils ornament the horizontal and
raking cornices. The house is clad with shiplap siding, varied by areas of fish -scale shingling located in the gable ends,
between stories in projecting bays, and on the pent roof over the front porch. Although basically rectangular in shape, the
floor plan extends outwards below the gables to form projecting wings. The one-story porch is L-shaped and wraps the
northwest corner of the building to terminate against the projecting wings. Within and above the porch, a squared bay is
placed at an angle to the corner and topped by another gable. Another squared bay projects from the wing below the west
gable. Decoratively carved brackets, featuring sunbursts and pendants, ornament the west gable overhangs. Windows are
(See Continuation Sheet 3 of 4.)
*P3b.
