ARTICLE XV <br />15.0 SAFETY <br />15.1 General. The City and the employees of the City agree to comply with all applicable <br />Federal, State, Local, and City of Santa Ana laws and regulations, which relate to health <br />and safety. <br />15.2 Central Safety Committee. The Union may designate two (2) representatives and two (2) <br />alternates, who may attend only in either of the representatives' absences, to serve on the <br />City's Central Safety Committee. <br />15.3 Uniform/Safety Shoes. <br />A. The City agrees to pay Lip to three hundred dollars ($300) per fiscal year per <br />employee, for the purchase and/or repair of approved safety shoes/boots. The <br />option of purchase and/or repair shall be at the sole discretion of each employee. <br />Employees will be allowed to use this allowance to purchase insoles or other boot <br />related accessories. <br />B. Code Enforcement employees who are regularly assigned to work involving <br />confiscation or retrieval of evidence or who must regularly enter dangerous or <br />abandoned properties will be eligible for a boot/safety shoe allowance. Code <br />Enforcement employees will be allowed to use this allowance to purchase uniform <br />shirts as approved by the department manager or his/her designee. <br />C. All safety shoes/boots purchased under this program must have steel reinforced <br />toes, insteps and bear the official stamp of approval from the American National <br />Standards Institute (ANSI), z-41. <br />D. If a particular classification of employment is designated as requiring its <br />incumbents to wear safety shoes, then it will be mandatory for all incumbents of <br />that classification to wear the type of safety shoes (boot or low -quarter) deemed to <br />be appropriate by the Department Head. (Some exemptions may be allowed, on a <br />case-by-case basis, depending on the type and amount of exposure to hazardous <br />conditions in particular positions and subject to the approval or disapproval of the <br />City's Safety Officer.) <br />E. The procedure necessary to be followed for the implementation and operation of <br />this program shall be in accordance with the existing policies and procedures as <br />previously established by the City. <br />52 <br />25B-54 <br />
