Michels Pipeline <br />Construction submitted the lowest responsive bid in the amount of $2,388,076 (Exhibit 2), which is <br />comparable to the Engineer's Estimate of $2,250,000. Staff included bid item #18 as an additive <br />alternate to install bollards (steel pipes) for protecting certain fire hydrants. This line item is reasonably <br />priced at $2,000, which results in a total construction contract of $2,388,076. Based on a bid analysis and <br />a contractor's performance reference check, staff recommends awarding the construction contract to <br />Michels Pipeline Construction (Exhibit 3). <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #6 - Community Facilities & Infrastructure, <br />Objective #1 (establish and maintain a Community Investment Plan for all City assets), Strategy C (invest <br />resources and technology to extend the service life of existing infrastructure to protect the City's <br />investment and support a high quality of life standard). <br />20A-2 <br />
