REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />MARCH 6, 2018 <br />TITLE: <br />ADOPT A RESOLUTION AMENDING THE <br />CLASSIFICATION AND COMPENSATION PLAN <br />(STRATEGIC PLAN NO. 7,4A) <br />_?1F�/ <br />11. <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />Iv77 ii0:49 <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on 16' Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED <br />TO <br />FILE <br />NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution that amends the City's Basic Classification and Compensation Plan for <br />classifications of employment designated as unrepresented Executive Management to change <br />the salary compensation range for the Executive Director of Public Works from EM -38 to EM -41. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Personnel Services Department recently completed a labor market survey of compensation <br />rates assigned to executive director job classifications overseeing public works related functions. <br />The City of Santa Ana Executive Director of Public Works Agency oversees the functions of four <br />divisions; Administration, Engineering Services, Street Maintenance and Water Services. This <br />position manages a large, full-service public works department with significant capital projects <br />and operational activities. <br />Staff recently conducted a salary survey of Executive Director of Public Works in comparison to <br />those agencies with similar job specifications and agency demographics. The survey revealed <br />that the Executive Director of Public Works job classification is 4.91% below average within the <br />City's labor market (see Table 1). The current compensation range for Executive Director of <br />Public Works is $11,553 - $16,325. The proposed compensation range increase for the <br />Executive Director of Public Works is $12,444 - $17,581, the difference is $1256.00 per month <br />an increase of approximately (7.69%). This would place the Executive Director of Public Works <br />within the City's labor market. <br />55C-1 <br />
