FREE RECORDING PURSUANT TO <br />GOVERNMENT CODE § 27383 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2018-04 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING <br />HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION APPLICATION <br />NO. 2017-63 TO PLACE THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT <br />918 N. LACY STREET, SANTA ANA, ON THE HISTORICAL <br />REGISTER AND APPROVING HISTORIC REGISTER <br />CATEGORIZATION NO. 2017-62 PLACING SAID <br />PROPERTY WITHIN THE KEY CATEGORY <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The Historic Resources Commission of the City of Santa Ana <br />hereby finds, determines and declares as follows: <br />A. On January 25, 2018 the Historic Resources Commission held a duly <br />noticed public hearing for the placement on the Santa Ana Register of <br />Historical Properties (Historic Resources Commission Application No. <br />2017-63) and categorization (Historic Resources Commission <br />Categorization No. 2017-62) of the Taylor -Rose House located at 918 N. <br />Lacy Street, Santa Ana. <br />B. The Taylor -Rose House has distinctive architectural features of the <br />Craftsman/Bungalow style, and was built in 1914 by John and Minnie <br />Taylor. <br />C. The Taylor -Rose House was listed in the National Register of Historic <br />Places in 1999 as a contributor to the French Park Historic District. The <br />Taylor -Rose House qualifies for listing in the Santa Ana Register of <br />Historical Properties under Key for its exemplification of the distinguishing <br />characteristics of the Craftsman/Bungalow style. Additionally, the house <br />has been categorized as "Key" as a work from notable architect, Frederick <br />Eley, and for its "distinctive architectural style and quality," embodying the <br />massing, materials, and detailing of a Craftsman bungalow in a two-story <br />family residence. Character -defining features of the Taylor -Rose House <br />that should be preserved include, but may not be limited to: materials and <br />finishes; low-pitched side -facing gabled roof with wide eaves; exposed <br />structural elements such as beams and rafter tails; triangular knee braces; <br />vertical boards with vertical cutouts ending in circles and adding a Swiss <br />touch to the peaks of the gables; wood shingles covering the second floor <br />facade; smaller shingles within the center of the front facade; ribbons of <br />casement windows; 6 -over -1 double -hung windows; single -storied entry <br />portico featuring pairs of exposed beam ends and wide eaves with <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2018-04 <br />JANUARY 25,2018 <br />
