Nobody teaches us how to manage our money in school. Financial issues
are not often discussed, and financial products not always explained. Most
people have trouble reading a financial statement. We use credit cards
every day and don't always understand the hidden charges. We buy
insurance policies and stick them in a filing cabinet. We contribute to our
retirement accounts and hope someone will take care of it.
Our organization, WSB has helped some of the most underserved
communities across North America. We provide free financial classes by
experienced and certified instructors. My family has benefited greatly from
the campaign and so my wife here tonight and I are passionate advocates
of this cause.
Most importantly, I would like to invite the City to join our campaign and
help us in our cause by allowing us to bring these classes to Santa Ana
residents in libraries, community centers and schools and have these
classes posted in the resident's bulletin. These will help achieve your city's
Strategic Flan Goal number 5 of Community Financial Health, Livability,
Engagement & Sustainability.
In closing, I would like to read a comment from Governor Jerry Brown last
April in support of Financial Literacy:
"Let us all take time to increase our knowledge of our finances and
encourage our friends and family to do the same. I encourage Californians
to take advantage of the free resources including seminars and workshops,
classroom presentations, online services and educational materials — and
learn how to better manage money, investments, credit and debt and avoid
financial scams and fraud."
"By empowering Californians with the knowledge and tools they need to
help them make critical decisions, including financing higher education,
buying a home, starting a business and saving for retirement, we are
investing in a brighter and more successful future."
Thank you for listening.
Tho Tran & Brennan Sizemore
WSB Orange County Financial Center
1221 E Dyer Rd, St 100
Santa Ana, CA 92705.
