From: Bruce Hamlin [ Sent: Tuesday, July 17, 2018 12:07 PM To: Tinajero, Sal <STinajero@santa-ana.org> Subject: Proposed Tax increase Sa I, This is Bruce Hamlin, Owner of Guaranty Chevrolet. I understand the City has some financial issues and the City Council is contemplating a proposed sales tax increase on the November ballot. I would certainly hope that someone has the courage to identify the single biggest issue every city and the state is facing.... pension costs for city employees!! I do believe in honoring the commitments made to individuals in regards to pension, but we cannot continue to have firemen and policemen work 20 years and receive a $100K pension for the rest of their lives. I have a friend who was a JC College baseball coach who recently retired and is receiving a $100K a year. Unbelievable ...... Nowhere in the private sector are these benefits as large. A tax increase on the citizens of this county that can least afford it is wrong. Businesses will suffer in Santa Ana. Why would anyone go to a Home Depot in Santa Ana when there is another one close by and buy the same product cheaper? In buying a car, the sales tax is charged where the individual lives. But .... most people don't know that. 33% of my new car customers live in Santa Ana. So 67% live outside Santa Ana. Why would they come here to buy a Chevrolet when they think they will pay less at another Chevrolet Dealer in another City. I do understand the immediate financial issues and a tax increase may be the only short term solution. If you decide to vote yes on this issue I would hope you would support the "Buy Local Program" that is being talked about. Thanks, Bruce Hamlin Guaranty Chevrolet
