Re: Santa Ana City Council Meeting, Support of Specific Items...
My name is Davis Vo and I am a Santa Ana resident. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend today's city council
meeting and so I am writing this email to express my support for two agenda items.
As the issue of homelessness has risen and become a major issue in our community, I am thankful of the
different ways that the Santa Ana council members have taken the lead in addressing homelessness through
research and evidence -based policies and positions. I support housing first policies for our chronically homeless
population, so I was very pleased with the rise of permanent supportive housing in our community, as well as
the recent emergency shelter.
The council truly is becoming a leader in our county for creating, developing, and building more permanent
supportive housing units in our community. Therefore, I strongly urge you approve the awards for the
developments proposed in today's agenda:
- Item 80A on City Council, Item 4 Housing Authority Agenda
- Housing Authority Agenda Item 3
I believe that these two developments will allow Santa Ana to continue to be a leader for our county on matters
relating to homelessness, and it is vital that we serve this population in the community so that we can alleviate
poverty and end homelessness.
Thank you so much for listening!
Best,
Davis

online and the recent emergency shelter.

RE: Support 80A: Santa Ana United Methodist Church project
Vecindario Lacy en Accion (VeLA) is a group of residents from the Lacy neighborhood that
have united to advocate for their community. The group includes: mothers, fathers, students,
individuals with special abilities and community leaders that share the vision of improving the
quality of life in their neighborhood and the city of Santa Ana. All with the purpose of creating
more opportunities for families to succeed. We request that you support the Santa Ana
United Methodist Church project. This project will benefit our neighborhood and the City
of Santa Ana as a whole by providing dignified and affordable housing.
There is a great need for housing that is affordable to families with extremely low incomes. We
know this because we live, see, and hear the stories of families that are struggling to retain stable
housing. Families in our neighborhood and in Santa Ana are doing whatever they can to get by,
this includes living in substandard and overcrowded housing conditions. Living in overcrowded
units is not only uncomfortable but it can also be dangerous. We fear for the danger that our
children are being placed in when families have to rent rooms and living rooms to strangers in
order to make ends meet. There are 1,361 registered sex offenders in the 92701 area code, many
of these individuals could be sharing living space with the children in our neighborhood.
Our children are our future and it is them who will benefit the most from accessible affordable
housing the most. The Santa Ana Unified School District currently has 5,962 students that are
defined as homeless in accordance with The McKinney-Vento Act. This number is increasing on
a daily basis and we need the City to take action to help these students and their families. Our
students and families should have access to housing that they can afford in their neighborhood
and city. They should not be experiencing homelessness and they should not be displaced from
their communities.
This project is 100% affordable and provides permanent supportive housing along with units at
30% Area Median Income, these units will be affordable to families with extremely low
incomes. We need more units that are affordable to families with extremely low incomes. We
so
recognize that this project alone will not solve our city's affordable housing crisis but it will
help.
We ask you to support our students and families by voting to approve our pre -loan
Commitment of $3,170,547 of Affordable Housing Funds and eight project -based Vouchers
to National Community Renaissance of California and Mercy House Living Centers for the
development of the Santa Ana United Methodist Church Project.
Sincerely,
Vecindario Lacy en Accion (VeLA)
