Subject: Council Agenda Item: Closed Session 4 & #25J (City Manager separation)
Mayor and Council Members ... I would like to provide short input with regards to agenda items relating
to separation with the City Manager (Closed Session #4 / Gen'l Session #25J), Although not specifically
mentioned in the staff reports or the closed session agenda item, I am presuming that there may be some
discussion about the next City Manager when discussing the execution of Manager Godinez's severance
agreement. I want to encourage the council to consider a full and transparent search for the best City Manager
that can be obtained for the benefit of the city, its residents, and its employees. If a full search is not done, I am
afraid that we may either not get the best qualified candidate or we will continually second guess ourselves as to
whether we hired the best we could. If a back pocket or known candidate is already on some of your minds and
they truly are the best candidate, this will come out through open and transparent discussions. Ultimately, we
need to have the best we can get which should be obtained in a transparent fashion.
