We think our school is good for Santa Ana because many students attend classes at our current location, and the school is functioning very well. Why change a real asset to the City of Sant Ana? Mendoza Acting City Manager City of Santa Ana 20 Civic Center Plaza Santa Ana, California 92702 Re: Federal Lands to Parks Ns 9-Z-CA-598C — Centennial Park / Community College License Fxtension Dear Mr. Mendoza: This letter is in response to the City's request that the National Park Service approve a two-year extension of the license agreement between the City of Santa Ana and the Rancho Santiago Community College District for the District's operation of an Education Center within Centennial Park. The extension request is to allow the Community College to continue its educational programs uninterrupted while allowing . sufficient time for the consideration of the City's land exchange proposal submitted to the National Park Service for the purpose of bringing Centennial Park into compliance with the terms of the public benefit conveyance of the property for public park purposes. We appreciate the City's efforts in working towards rectifying the use of a portion of Centennial Park for non -park purposes, including the identification, acquisition, and development of new properties for community parks in areas of need. Given the time, effort, and expense invested so far in this process, it is evident to us that the City is making a good faith effort to remedy the non -conforming use of Centennial Park In a way that achieves the greatest public good through a land exchange. The land exchange, if approved, would allow the College to remain in place, and we believe it is reasonable to allow the College to serve its public educational function while the complicated exchange process is worked through. We are therefore willing to allow the City to enter into another short term use agreement with the College, not to exceed two years, to allow more time to resolve the Centennial Park non -conforming use issue.
