Yes • 1 TOTAL: 1 Page 1 of 1 June 6, 2018 TO: City of Santa Ana: Dear Members of the City Council, We are writing on behalf of Palmdale Ave S, LLC, owner and operator of the Superior Grocers shopping center located at 1710 S. Main Street, Santa Ana, CA 92707. This letter is regarding the growing liabilities and concerns created by the food trucks that park parallel to our center on Broadway and Sycamore Street on a daily basis. Our goal is to highlight and bring attention to the alarming issues caused by the inattentive methods of operations practiced by these food trucks. For this reason and the additional reasons listed below, we propose that the city paints the curbs red, effectively prohibiting the food trucks from parking near or around our driveway entrances and exits and from blocking the visibility of patrons entering and exiting the shopping center. First and foremost, our customers are constantly at risk of having an accident when exiting the parking lot of our shopping center due to the lack of visibility created by these large food trucks. It is incredibly difficult to see oncoming cars when these trucks are blocking the line of sight. We want to ensure the safety of our customers along with the members of the community when they come in and out of our shopping center, As stated before, this is a pressing liability concern that we are seeking to remedy before someone gets seriously injured. Additionally, we have experienced recurring issues with excessive trash being left behind in our parking lot by the food truck operators and patrons emptying their trash in our receptacles, in the parking lot and on the adjacent city street. Due to the proximity of the food trucks, their litter ends up on our property, transferring the responsibility for cleanup and disposal to us and our local small business tenants. Moreover, we have observed the food trucks placing unauthorized seating on the city sidewalk, making it difficult for pedestrians to navigate the public walkways. Not only is this unsightly, but it is also a violation of the city's ordinance and our standards of ADA compliance, as these makeshift setups restrict a clear path of travel for handicap pedestrians. Again, due to the proximity of these food trucks, their patrons often trespass on our property. Many of these individuals carelessly sit on the block wall of our shopping center, posing yet another liability. Thus, we kindly ask that the severity of this matter is recognized. For your reference, we have attached a picture of the individuals sitting on the block wall. We respectfully supplicate from all the members of the city council to strongly consider the aforementioned issues as compelling reasons to take immediate action to paint the curb red along S. Broadway in order to eliminate the food trucks ability to park there. The importance of this matter cannot be overstated. We truly appreciate your consideration and anticipated cooperation. lm Anders Portfo(fo Supervisor Cc: Mayor Miguel Pulido Cc: 1710 Main, LLC 1
