HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRESENTATION - 75BRECOVERY OF COSTS AND EXPENDITURES INCUMBERED BY THE CITY FOR WEED AND TRASH ABATEMENT WITHIN RAILROAD RIGHT OF WAY IN THE CITY ■ Adopt a resolution affirming the acceptance of the Weed and Trash Abatement report and confirm the description of the costs associated with the execution of the Inspection and Abatement Warrants on railroad right of way owned by the Union Pacific Company. 2 The City of Santa Ana operates a year-round program to maintain private properties free of weeds, rubbish, and garbage, pursuant to Chapter 16, Article III of the Santa Ana Municipal Code (SAMC). Accumulation of trash, debris and the general lack of property maintenance on railroad properties have become increasingly noticeable to the community and are negatively impacting the health and welfare of the community and residents of the city. Code Enforcement Division posted and advised the property owner, Union Pacific Railroad Company, to clean their premises. Lack of compliance required the City to seek and obtain Inspection and Abatement warrants from the Orange County. 3 Code Enforcement in Collaboration with the City's Quality of Life Team 1716 S. MAY 22ND & 23RD , 2019 INSPECTION & ABATEMENT WARRANT J U LY 10 T" & 11T", 2019 INSPECTION & ABATEMENT WARRANT RIF r I ■ The execution of the two Inspection and Abatement warrants total $76,948.60, which includes City staff time, City equipment, and Code Enforcement Division contractor services expenditures. ■ The adoption of the resolution allows City of Santa Ana to properly invoice and pursue collection of costs and expenditures incurred by the city associated with the abatement efforts. ■ Union Pacific Railroad Company has been provided with courtesy invoices regarding the city's request to recover costs associated with the abatement actions on July 16, 2019 and August 6, 2019. ■ The City of Santa Ana has received no payment to date.
